The Education Department runs many programs year round. They offer programs for all ages that focus on US History and the role of the presidency with special focus on the administration of George H.W. Bush (the 41st President of the United States). They also enhance the learning environment through the support of literacy, as this was Barbara Bush's cause as First Lady.
Programs include: Historical Storytelling Programs, Classroom Programs, Summer Camp, Vgo Robot "Millie" Tours, and the annual Art and Essay Contest. The Education Department also provides Teacher Resources including Lesson Plans, which follow TEKS, and Workshops and Professional Development. During the school year, one-hour guided School Tours are offered for all ages and grade levels. These are often paired with other programs, such as Storytelling, Classroom programs, or other events happening that day.
The Education Department provides scholarship and Grants/Awards in honor of President and Mrs. Bush through the George Bush Foundation. Also provided are various endowments which support the Education Programs and Exhibits developed by the department.

In Summer 2016 (May-August), I helped develop and run Summer Camp at the Museum. The temporary exhibit focused on Transportation and included a trip to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) for Full Day Campers. While at the museum, campers learned about George H. W. Bush and his life, as well as different methods of transportation each day (Land, Air, Water, and Space). Every Thursday, the day was mostly spent at TTI, where campers learned about transportation research, traffic signals, the impact on the environment, safety, and crash testing. They got to participate in many different hands on activities, both at the Museum and at TTI, which included making their own vehicle out of paper and straws, which they then got to race.
Images above provided by TTI. The first is one of the groups of campers who went to TTI. I am fourth from the left in the back row. The second image is off the racing contest. Groups of two or three campers created a vehicle from paper, straws, lifesaver mints, tape, and paperclips that were then raced against each other. Each team tried to get the farthest on one breath of air.
